Can someone tell me what is the difference between those two ?
I know the kt4 ultra has the possibility to have more features, and I know the kt4v can run the barton 3000+ cpu and the kt4 ultra only up to barton 2800+

    but aside from that ?
    both have the kt400 chipset....

the kt4vl is listed at 130$ and the kt4 ultra at 160$ (canadian dollars)

    why in your opinion ?

If you think the KT4 Ultra's extra features may be helpful, go for it.
I'm also guessing that the Ultra probably has more BIOS Options in the way of overclocking and memory tweaks. MSI usually makes several different versions of their motherboards---like the basic version, one with RAID, one with lots of USB, LAN, or a combination of these. That KT4 Ultra probably is the basic version of the KT4 lineup, but don't quote me on that ;)

*note to self: look at hardware before posting*

Okay, I ran across them at newegg, and according to the info their, the KT4VL has LAN and ATA RAID. The KT4 Ultra (plain ultra) is the basic board, and has silkscreens for 1 additional ATA133 port and 2 SATA ports. The higher-end versions of the board includes the C-media sound chip for 5.1 channel sound. IMO, the SATA isn't going to be that great of a feature right now---at least not until the SATA2 comes around. Also, the C-media isn't really that great when the drivers don't have an EQ to work with. The only really good onboard sound is the one that comes on the nForce 1 or 2 boards. The KT4VL just uses standard AC'97 audio which isn't any worse than the C-Media and a bit cheaper.

    ok thanks

that'S just what I thought : they are roughly the same so it's better to get the least expensive one

But the KT4VL has more features that could be useful (LAN, and audio---as a backup).

Lan is not an issue in my case, I'm using a network card because my board does not have onboard lan, and the plain kt4 ultra has 5.1 sound

actually I think nowadays all boards, no matter what version of them you buy, have sound (not 5.1 but at least ac 97)

They are workable solutions, but you'll probably want to look at a PCI sound card instead simply because they have better sound.

I really don't mind the sound, all I need is to have it, I'm not nearly as demanding in gaming sound than in movie sound.

maybe, but 99% of the people doesn't like the onboard sound, you can still be considered as normal ;)

I have never heard soundstorm sound or audigy2 sound so maybe that's why I'm not picky.

I gotta admit that when I listen to a cd on my computer, I can clearly see a huge difference between the comp and a real audio system.

    EDIT: 1000 posts...I'm right behind you !

You might also want to look into this board. The Soltek's been getting good reviews and should perform better than the KT as it's based on the nForce 2.
