...Well, the operating system of choice for a certain communist country that is. Namely, Cuba. The country of Cuba has decided to ditch MS Windows for the secure, free, open-source alternative based on the Unix framework -- commonly known as Linux. They report to already have over 1,500 government systems converted to Linux, and will slowly migrate the rest over time, eventually replacing Windows completely.
Opinion: I am not a big fan of Cuba (although their cigars are unrivaled), nor of communism. But I do applaud their decision. Most other counties in the world which are in the same category of poverty choose to simply pirate MS Windows. Cuba has in this case chosen the higher road: technological and financial independance, both legally and morally legitimate. If only the US government could be as far-sighted...
