Pcworld has recently got its hands on a build of longhorn in beta and has provided a few images that show some GPU pizzaz compared to the old XP (yes thats right.. OLD) longhorn's 64 bit compatibility and optimization and anti virus/spyware capabilities may make it have a huge potential full story: http://pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,121435,00.asp
Great article and slick looking OS, we have to get you on the news crew as soon as a slot opens:good: "Microsoft has yet to announce minimum Longhorn system requirements, but for PC buyers seeking insurance that a new system will run Longhorn, the company advises getting 512MB of RAM and a "modern" CPU--more than Windows XP needs." This is why I'm not buying the 4 gig thing, maybe this will be the minimum "everything disabled" requirements?
Yea that whole 4 gig thing is BS. Some random Linux/OS X fanatic probably said that to get people pissed off at MS.
i like longhorn thus far. but thats probably cause i havent used it yet so far it hasnt caused me any problems
Actually, that was the initial announcement by MS. They did pretty much the same thing with XP, but toned it down before the release. I have no idea why, so please don't ask me.
I'm just 'getting it' because it looks pretty. And the 64bit capabilities, well, I'm sure will come in handy, assuming I ever 'get' any 64 bit software...
ditto for me, its just awesome that they ship 32bit and 64bit together, wonder if you can use them both at once on two computers?
The screen shots were'nt totally impressive but then again they're only screen shots (game screenies usually make everything look twice as bad) with a default preliminary theme, the desktop effects probably look better.
But after 5 years...it can only help but look better, but a beautiful OS is not as important as one that can remain stable yet higly functional, let's hope MS pegs that number.
I downoaded a beta testing skin via Windowblinds.net with their free windowblinds utility that lets you change themes safely and without any antispyware/virus from internet d-load, the longhorn testing skin is quite hot, its like MAC skin meets Black, only the windows icons are the same
its hot, my dad doesn't like the idea of d-loading internet themes becaue it's mostly laced with spyware, but after 0 spyware and viruses, and such a gorgeous theme, he even thought about getting it himself haha
