Media Crash

Hi guys,
Wondering If you can help me...?
O.K I shall try to describe the problem, but plz ask if I miss anything or you need to know anything futher? :good:
I recently (about 5weeks ago) had a new HDD installed, a 200gb maxtor, and everything was fine, and at the same time, I got some new speakers, and a 4.1 sound card so the speakers would work...
O.K I didnt start having problems until I formatted my C:
I formatted as I couldnt uninstall anything, but I did it wrong the first time, installing windows a second time onto my new H: :swear:
I managed to get rid of that, and sorted it out by formatting and deleting the partitions etc, so now that problem is sorted.
My problems are, whenever I watch movies, listen to music, and play games, my computer freezes, the only solution being to reset my computer, and also, I cannot get any sound out of my original speakers, whereas before my format I could....
When I look in at soundback devises, i see 2 of the same devise, C-Media Wave Devise & C-Media Wave Devise(2), when I select C-Media Wave Devise I get no sound, so could this be anything to do with it?
Just wondering if there is anything I can hardware wise to stop these damn crashes...PLEEAASSEE?!

I suggest you reformat again.

1) Go to Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Mangement
2) Select Disk Management from the list, resize the window (I don't know how they think we can work in that much space...).
Here you can manage partitions.
I suggest dividing your drives into themes: Windows, Apps, Games, Music, Movies, Downloads...
The partition containing Windows should be 10gb. This will be the primary partition. All the rest should be an extended partition, in which you will have several other partitions (which are called logical drives)

That way, the next time you need to format your hard drive, all you'll have to do is wipe out the c: drive, then reinstall windows on it, then format your different partitions, after backing up your important files.
I suggest you format using the NTFS file system, not FAT32.

It might be a pain to reorganize everything, but once you've done it, you won't have to worry about it again.

I think I have a PC-cillin2002 motherboard - and on the cd it has "Mainboard XP Support" on it too...
The cd also says it auto installs IDE Drivers, VGA Drivers, Sound Drivers etc etc...
So could having the incorrect drivers cause my computer to do this?

I didnt get any software with the soundcard or the speakers btw

*Edit* Ok I think the pc-cillin 2002 thing is an antivirus thing, is there any way to find out my motherboad using software ?
I have tried Aida32 - but it comes up with unknown. It is a custom built too... :mad: :confused:

I will try the driver updates first, and then the BIOS, as someone told me that is more dangerous :confused:
Anyway, thanks for the help, I will report back what happens....

Ok the drivers did not work :(
When i try to get that BIOS update, it says to Make a DOS boot diskette.
Then it says that windows xp cannot do this?
How can I get around that problem?

And if you have any more suggestions on my problem, please help!

Thought i'd update you since you tried to help me :D :good:
Turned out, I had 2 sound card devices enabled, and they were conflicting with each other. I disabled one, rebooted and everything has been all good since :cool:
