monitor cannot pick up signal occasionally

I have been having this comp for 2 yrs. About 6 months after I got it, I noticed that sometimes when I turn on the computer, monitor will not recognize it and will stay black. I usually force turning off and press the power again and it usually resolves.

In the past a few months, it has becoming more frequent. Last month, almost everytime I have to try 2-3 times to turn the computer on with monitor getting the signal. When it blacks out, I can hear the windows logging in sound, so I think the desktop is running with the exception that the video input cannot be picked up by the monitor.

It has gotten more frequent in the last a few days. Today I have to try like 10+ times and it has not worked. I opened case and tightened my video card. I also noticed a plug resting on my video card facing down. I thought that might have influenced it so I twisted it so it faces up. And I got the monitor back on.

I have opened the case a couple times and check for the connections a couple of times in the past 2 years, and every time I did that, it usually worked. (that really doesn't mean anything because eventually, it will have to work otherwise, it will be dead.) So I still don't know what is really wrong - whether it's a connection problem or something else.

Here's my build from IBUYPOWER that I have had for about 2 yrs:
