i know this is gona make me sound dumb...but how the hell do i find out what motherboard i have....im using a dell dimension 8300 and i wana know which graphics cards i can buy...but to know taht i need to know which motherboard i have....any help ..much apreciated....
it says... Model - 0G0728 Chipset - Intel i875P Now....lol....im guessin taht the Chipset is teh motherboard...am i right lol...and if so....how good is this motherboard?
I'm not entirely sure, but I suspect that Dell doesn't actually produce their own motherboards, but has another company build or modify a design for them. The chipset is what controls the memory, graphics, hard drive controllers...pretty much anything wired on the motherboard is controlled by the chipset. The i875P (aka Canterwood) was Intel's power-player chipset a few cycles ago, so you've got a nice starting point. You'll want to look at any AGP 8x/4x video card for your upgrade.
thanks for that BIG B , i cheked out the intel website and downlaoded a product specification guide..looks like this mothboard is a nice starting point... could u recommend any video cards....and will the PC support 256MB?....i just dont know bout all this graphics stuff lol.... oh and btw...any recommended sites would be much appreciated
The RAM size on a graphics card doesn't matter. You can have pretty much anything that's in AGP format, from 32MB to 60,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000GB...it doesn't matter. As long as it's AGP, it's compatible.
lol.thanks for clearing that up.....hmm....so no pci then...you know any really fantastic AGP 8X cards? 256 preferebly
