So I was downstairs and left my computer running, as I came back to it, it was off. So I don't know what happened exactly but when I tried turning the computer back on it wouldn't turn on, it would start for half a second and then go out. I took it apart and disconnected wires and nothing happened. Then I unplugged the 8-pin ATX power cable. It powers the CPU. With EVERYTHING else plugged in, except for this 8-pin plug, the motherboard started up, fans and everything. I shut it down, plugged the 8-pin plug back in, and it wont start. Disconnect it, it works. Plug it back in, it short circuits.

What would be the problem here? Power Supply connector, CPU, Motherboard?

There any way to fix this without buying new hardware?
