i wonder if any one can help me, i has recently taken the plunge and dercided to dop an upgrade as my aopen motherboard kept booting up with errors. so i purchased a foxconn 945p7ad motherboard, as this had 2 ide sockets, when it arrived i found out it had a 24 pin power connector my power supply had 20 pin so i then bought a covertor lead i put the new motherboard in and when i turn it on nothing happens, What am i doing wrong, also on the instructions it shows an 8 pin 12 v power connector, my power supply has a 4 pin 12 v supply. Do i need to connect to this and can i just plug into 4 of the pins

If you have the auxillary 4-pin, you will need to plug it in as it provides power directly to the CPU. Your manual will illustrate where Pin one is, and that's where you'll need to start with the 4-pin connector on the 8-pin block.
It will only fit one way, so once you line it up, you should be fine.
As a general rule of thumb, if there's a power connection on the motherboard, you should plug it in as it's likely there for a reason besides looks.
You also don't need the 20-to-24-pin connector, as motherboards will work with the older 20-pin connector. However, you may want to consider a power supply purchase down the road if you plan to grab a newer video card as your current unit is likely not designed with the power needs of todays systems.
