I tried to install latest rpm of mplayer 1.0pre5.2. I got "failed dependencies 2:1.0pre5 needed". I downloaded 1.0pre5, compiled and installed it(it works fine except quicktime video's have no sound). I then tried to install rpm again-got same messages. Did I miss something?
What distro are you using? Just because you compile and install it doesn't mean that it will satisfy the dependency, it needs to be registered as a package in the rpm database, which is why you try to use the package manager when you can so you don't get this sort of problem.
[ot]I know it is not the Linux way of thinking but for me, if it is not on a repository, I do not bother..... Come to think of it, I do not think I ever came across a basic application which was not available trough a repo..... Rock on Debian! Best 'repoed' distro for me! [/ot]
