    Hi all:

Just wondering if anyone could shead any light on the following: I have entered msconfig, start up, and deselected various programs which where stating up on boot-up; however I am curious to know whether performing such a task i.e. putting your system in selective start up mode, can have any effect on your system?

    Thanks

    Olly :good:

Depends on what you're disabling. Some services you need, even if you don't think you do. I ally disable a few services required for Windows update and had to re-enable them for it to work properly. I disable extra, unnecessary crap for startup from regular programs. I leave the antivirus active on startup for one thing, but I'll get rid of the MS Office startup...which I have no idea why it needs to be there on startup.

Most of the entries under "Startup" can be safely disabled, unless its your AV or firewall.
