Well, long story short, I've got an MSI k7n2 delta 2 mobo. Tonight, while playing with some features in the bios, I accidently changed my FSB speed way to high. The system now refuses to boot (won't even POST). I've tried clearing the Cmos via the bat1 jumper refered to in the users manual with no luck. Is there a way to revert all the settings back to default? Is it possible to upgrade the bios to solve this problem? (doubtfull seeing it won't post for me) Or am I just screwed, lol. Hopefully someone knowlegeable can help me out. Thanks in advance =)
If clearing the CMOS doesn't work, try taking out the battery on the motherboard and putting it back in, that should have the same effect.
Did you clear CMOS with the power off and the power supply unplugged from the motherboard? Did you leave the pins in the 2-3 position for 10 seconds (at least)? If those fail, unplug the power supply from the motherboard, and leave the battery out for a few hours. Pop it back in and see where it gets you.
I did try clearing it with the power off, but not unpluged. I removed the battery, but only for a min. or 2. Going to try unpluging the power supply from the motherboard and pulling the battery out now. I'll leave it like that for a few hours and let ya know how it goes. Thanks guys =) Update : I've let the motherboard sit, with the power supply unpluged from it, and the battery out for about 5 hours now. Still no change. Just unpluged everything again and I'll let it sit overnight tonight to see if it needs more time for the capaciters to discharge fully. Hard to believe that the mobo may be unuseable due to a simple setting in the bios. I really doubt any damage was done because I picked up on what I did immediatly and shut it off, but that is also a possibility I suppose.
You're not using Kingston RAM with that board are you? I had a lot of trouble with overclocking and using Kingston stuff back in the day.
Nope, it's got 512mb of some generic stuff in there atm. Thanks for the info though, b/c I was looking at some new kingston ram for it just a few days ago. It's still sitting lifeless atm, with everything unplugged. Gona try putting it back together tomorow when I get home from work.
You also might try setting the FSB jumper back to 100MHz and try booting then. I had this board over 2 years ago, so stuff comes to me. I do remember it didn't play very nice when you tried to OC it.
This thread at nForcersHQ might help, given how picky the K7N2's are. I haven't read through the entire thing, but it seems that Crucial RAM is a safe bet.
Very strange thing happened today. Last night, after letting it sit for 2 days with the power supply unplugged, and bat. out with no luck I was about to give up. Tried playing with memory sticks I had laying around and still had nothing. Got home from work today and just tried turning it on (just for kicks and giggles) and it boots just fine. LOL, must have scared the grimlings away. Thanks alot for all your help, as I do believe it to be the memory that helped. Problom solved =) Thanks again
