My CD/RW disappeared !

Last night I ran System Suite 5 to clean up my puter....today I can't burn a CD because it says my hardware is not installed ! I thought the CD drive had died so I bought a new Sony unit and installed it but still the computer says it's not there .
I have a restore disk but with no drive, no fix.....
I tried reinstalling what I removed last night but that didn't help.
I tried System Restore but it says no changes available....NOW WHAT ?
It has to be a software problem , right ? :swt: :swt: :swt:
 
are you sure the drive is installed correctly - the connector pins pushed all the way in?

Is this new drive set to be the master or slave?

Then right click on my computer, do Properties, Hardware Manager, and the sroll to CD ROM devices. If there is a yellow "?" with something like "Sony CDROM", right click and update the driver using the cd provided.
 
I'm 90% sure its your drivers. You reinstall the drivers for it or you can do a repair install of windows which will also fix the problem.
 
System Suite 5? Did that happen to mention fixing things in the registry? If it's one of these software packages that says it'll fix your PC right up...it does, like a vet fixes a cat.

Now, you should be able to see if it's connected (properly) in BIOS. Meaning, if it's showing up without any weird symbols, it's being recognized by the motherboard, and that the problem likely lies with the OS.
 
u should also check that your cd drive is getting power to it and that the ide cables are ok, i know it sounds like a driver problem but it could just be coincidence, also is it on its own ide port (e.g secondry master) or is it daisy chained (primary slave)? In both cases check the jumpers for primary and slave located on the back of the drive. i hope it helped Dave

Quite honestly if you have a program that wants to clean your registry out, don't use it. No matter who makes it, they all give the same result. It's not malicious, just marketing.
