just this smorning on my new 3 day old pc my dvd drive stoped working, it was going fine before then it justed stoped, it says i should get the updated drives but my pc doesnt have an internet connection and no cd drive, i can transfer data via usb and any size media card but thats it, what should i do?

ok, a few questions.

What told you you should get the latest drivers?

The computer that you used to post this message has an internet connection, why dont you download the files using that computer?

If file downloads are blocked i can instruct you how to get around them via PM

DVD drives are detected as generic devices, and windows will install its own drivers for it. Try going to device manager, finding your drive and uninstalling it. It should no longer be available. Then reboot and windows should autodetect it and reinstall its drivers. If not then go to control panel>add new hardware and search for hardware added but no drivers installed.

ok, i did what addis said about uninstalling the drivers and i did uninstall it then i shut down my PC and restarted it again and when it came back on the drivers where reinstalled but the error was still there, and for the other question i went into device manager and it said the thing about being corupted or missing and it recomended i click "troubleshoot" so i did and the first option was what adiss said, then the next one asked if there was any new driver updates and thats where i got the idea, i dont know what driver i would need though, ok plz reply

hey again, did the Drive come with any discs? as Addis said it should be recognised by windoze and installed/set up automatically..... but ive heard of friends having to use a disc that came with there drives to get them to work :ohah: (but in there case the dvd drive wouldnt read dvd's)

Is the drive COMPLETLY useless, or will it still read cd's?

Did you get the computer from a local bussiness?

i fixed my problem, if anyone want to know how, i had to do a system restore from yesterday, cause it was working yesterday so when i set it back everything was ok, well thats my story, thanks for the help guys, even if i didnt use it

In case anybody else comes accross this thread, ATAPI drives, such as internal CDROMS, DVD-RWs, etc. do not need drivers.
