I bought a plug and play hard drive thinking all my storage problems would go away. However I bought one with a not so kool program that has been giving me headaches lately. So I thought why not format the drive to nfts so i an do it the simple way drag and drop So I looked online for some good formatting programs but the one good program that has a good rep is partition magic. So I looked at the prices I was like wow that much if I/m going to ues it once Hell no. So does anybody know any good FREE partitioning programs to formatt my external hard drive and convert it to NTFS so I could just Drag and Drop them into my external Hard drive? Or if it really worth paying 6o some dollars for partition magic 8 BTW Im running Windows Vista
Hi, Why going for partitioning softwares. You can just use windows itself to format your drive to ntfs. Plug your drive and right-click on it in "My Computer". Select FORMAT and set the file system to "NTFS" and click on start. This will format your drive to NTFS. If you want to convert your drive to NTFS without formatting,then open command prompt and check the "CONVERT" command, it will help you. If you want to convert the size of your partitions just right-click on "My Computer" select "MANAGE", in that select "STOREGE" and then "DISK MANAGEMENT". Your HDD will be shown here, right-click on it now you can delete partitions and create new partitions as you like.
partition magic (PM) was good when it was owned by PowerQuest, however, PowerQuest were taken over by Symantec, & Symantec have a bad habit of thinking they can improve everything, wrong. PM was good when PowerQuest owned it, but Symantec have ruined it, many users on HWF have lost data / partitions because of PM (including me, before i came to HWF) symantec acquired powerquest in about 2003, i have also seem symantec referred to as evil on the net you can get very good partition management software is Acronis Disk Director, but having said that you can format it from vista, but, i use Linux, so, i've no idea about vista, i can hardly remember XP BTW: this is my opinion
