I've been trying to sort it out, adjust settings and playing around with it so I can play counterstrike smoothly on it. Yes its a Radeon x550 and I was told its not a gaming card. Maybe it isn't but surely it can run counterstrike.. Heres a few things about it, maybe it will help. What can I do ?

Which version of Counter-Strike? The one that's paired with Half-Life 1 or the Source version that accompanies HL2?

The first thing I'd do is make sure your drivers are up to date. Second thing I'd do is look at the in-game resolution and detail settings. I'd keep the resolution no higher than 1024x768 and turn the detail settings to low or off. Also, disable V-sync.

The x550 is pretty old, and in either case, being the old HL1-based CS or the new CS:S version, you can run it with something as crappy as a GeForce 2 MX...but don't expect it to look pretty. Try running the game in Direct 3D for CounterStrike: Source, since ATi cards have been weaker with OpenGL performance than Direct3D (aka Direct X).

The Source engine is pretty flexible, but if you want to play any other games, the X550 is not doing you any favors. The X550 is based on technology 3-4 years old, which is pretty old given the clip that hardware is updated.

cheers bud. I am thinking of upgrading, i sure do need a better card. I was on about the older version of cs (1.6) but soon ill be playing source. thanks for your help and time. meh, ive tried updating and playing around with resolutions/settings. ill keep on at it, thanks again
