I have an AMD pc with 2.2 GHz speed( reported by windows as 1.1GHz ), 256MB DDR SDRAM. The system unexpectedly freezes for some reason I cannot understand. The freezing is not specifically associated with an application. It happened under different circumstances every time. The os is windows xp professional. Does anyone have any idea of what might be causing this problem? Thanx in advance
Might be that your RAM is causing errors. Download Memtest x86 (use Google) Now for the PC, are you sure it's the 2.2GHz and not the 2200+? That get's people confused. However, either way, it sounds like your front side bus (FSB) isn't set correctly, and should be either 133MHz or 166MHz.
Yes, the pc is 2200+ and the FSB and RAM speed is reported as 200MHz by Sandra. It was wierd to me too. The values I know are 133 and 266. So if this is what's causing the problem, how can I adjust it?
For the correct CPU speed, you should have the RAM speed showing as 266MHz. You'll have to go into BIOS to change this. Without knowing your motherboard, I'm only going to be able to be vauge. The FSB should be adjustable, and it may be listed as External CPU Frequency, and should be set to 133MHz. You'll be looking in a section along the lines of Frequency and Voltage adjustments. The DRAM speed should be left at 266MHz, but it is possible that you might have RAM that isn't able to run correctly at this speed, so you should see if you can drop the speed down to 200MHz.
