Hello everyone on HF.com! I registered here because I need help with a project of mine; I'd like to try and build a small, battery-operated computer. I just don't know where to find the parts I need to do so, and my budget is not very big either.
I've been looking around and it seems my best bet is to go with COM (computers-on-modules) or single-board systems. However, all I can find is pretty expensive (over $100 for the cheapest kit) and has more features than I would really need anyway. I just need a system that would support audio and video output, an easy way to transfer data (either with SD slots or USB ports) and of course, keyboard input. I don't need to run Windows 7 on it, even an early version of Unix would be nice, so no need for fancy CPUs or lots of ram. Also, I'd like to incorporate a screen directly on the system, which could be something like a 3 inch LCD, but all I could find either has AV input or was way too expensive (the cost of an actual full-size monitor). If I can find cheap COMs or SBSs with AV output, that's fine, but I doubt many come with it by default.
Any help at all would be appreciated! Thank you all.
