Need help with vivo output and TV tuner card

Hi,
I have just purchased a tv tuner card so that i can record while in games, as well as watch tv on my pc. Im having trouble getting the vivo to work on my x800 series gfx card. i can enable tv output, but then i cant use my monitor. what do i need to do to enable the video output on the gfx card and still keep the use of my monitor? i have the tv card and graphics card linked up with an s-video cable and the recording software for the tv card is set to the s-video cable. so what do i do next ?
 
I could be wrong, but TV tuner cards in the past few years don't require any sort of connection to your video card. You shouldn't need to connect the video output to the TV card unless the manual says so. If it did, there would be some sort of monitor connection.

From my understanding of the situation, you're running a cable from the video card to the TV card. The TV tuner is not a display, and you're making it the default monitor. Problem is the TV tuner does not produce a display of any sort, it accepts the TV singnal and then, with the help of software, displays it on your computer screen. There should be some software included with the card to allow you to do this.
 
Well thats kinda what I'm trying to do, I'm trying to record myself while in a game. I have the output of the gfx card hooked upto the TV card and the recording software for the TV card open so I can see what is comming through the TV card. The software for the TV card is all setup and set to S-video input. All I can see is a black screen on the recording software because the S-video output on the gfx card hasn't been enabled. The only way i can activate the S-video output is to switch it to TV output, thins then mean I can't see anything on my monitor which is rather annoying as i have no idea what im then doing. (I had to hook up a TV so I could see what i was doing and disable the TV output) What I'm trying to do is activate the video output on my gfx card and still keep the use of my monitor, is this possible?
 
Hmmm...well, normally, with two displays, it can detect both and extend or clone to that display. You may need to get ahold of ATi's Hydravision software for a more robust dual-display capability that may help.

So, all you want to do is record yourself playing a game? It's definitely possible, but not in the way you're doing it. I'm thinking the program FRAPs can do this for you, but I'm not entirely sure.

The system you're doing isn't quite going to fly because you're inputting into a device that does not output to a display. The TV card's data is outputted to the monitor through the video card, but the monitor is disabled because the signal has been sent to the video out.

Most games allow for you to record gameplay, so you could do that and then convert it to a media file. That's, at least how I'm guessing that people record video game clips and have them available for people to view without having the game.

Yup. Fraps is what you want if you just want to record yourself playing.
 
Yeah im trying to do it this way so that i dont have to use fraps as fraps is total shite, lags you down at a few fps so the game becomes unplayable.
 
Unless you're TV tuner has a pass-through system for the TV signal, I *don't* think you're going to get it going like this. You may have to play around with some settings. Your resolution, disk speed, RAM amount, and CPU are all going to have an effect on the recording abilities. A dual-core CPU would likely make things better.
