netgear GD834GT problem

hey i have a netgear GD834GT router and the problem i have is that i used to have a 512 kbs broadband then then when pipex bought homecall which is my ISP we got in touch and they upgraded the line up to 8 megs but can only get 3 atm but the problem i have is no matter what i do the router wont change the speed so im still downloading at about 60 kbs
does any one have any ideas how to get the router to reconize that the braodband has been upgraded

Hve you tried restarting the router? Also try to upgrade the firmware here.

I have the same router and I do not think the router can control the network speeds. There are a number of factors but this router supports very high speeds so I doubt this is where your problem lies.

Your connection speeds rely on distance from the exchange, number of users, network traffic, line quality, connection ratios and obviously the equipment.
Since you have a very good router I would look elsewhere for the blame. A router does not need 'to be told' that the line has been upgraded.

I used to have an 8Meg connection which never went over 1.1Mbps and my downloads never climbed over 60Kbps. As the router is fairly new, I doubt you will need a firmeware upgrade. But it is always worth checking. Do you know how to log onto the router's settings?

also if you rebooted the router would it forget the connection speed so when you rentered the username and password so it would detect the faster connection?

if you reboot it, it will detect the lines speed, hopefully it will detect the correct speed.

ive done that and it keeps cumming up with 576 kbps
i have rebooted the router using the button on the side of the router and on the ip address using a web browser but none of them worked got any other ideas?
