    Hi all... Any techies out there?? love a good challenge? i don't know if you know an answer to this one; Hopefully you will.

    I have winxp service pack 2...

    I want to combine 2 seperate networks via my machine??

    The first is a wireless connection to an access point, which is in turn connected to my cable modem.
    The second is a wired connection to a router.

    My problem is that, the two connections provide different IP addresses.. The access point via the modem is supplying an IP address from my ISP. And the router is supplying a local network address... e.g. 192.168.1.40

    When i enable both connections all activity from my wireless connection halts.. although i can then see the router.

    So what i am doing at the moment is enabling/disabling them when required.

    what i would like to do is have them both operational at the same time?

    I used the network bridge, not really understanding what that does?? but it didn't work, i still lost the connectivity over my Wireless network.

    Any other ideas???

    thanks in advance :)

    When I tried to connect my WAP to my cable modem, it wouldn't get an IP address frm DHCP.

    The solution was to use the router to assign DHCP addresses.
    My setup is like this:
    Cable modem --> WAN port of wired router --> Access point --> wireless laptop

    Is that how your setup is? If not can you post what it is then.

    i have my cable modem entering one floor of my building.

    I live on a seperate floor..

    hence cable modem -> Access point -> Wifi card in my pc

    so i am accessing the internet via wireless card.

    in the same room, i have a local network between 2 pcs and my xbox; via a router.

    Router -> pc 1 (wifi card)
    -> PC 2
    -> Xbox

    Basically i can't see the files on my second computer or xbox.. and browse the internet at the same time.

    Do ya get what i've tried to say??? :rolleyes:

    cheers

    If I understand you correctly, what you want to do is akin to a VPN. Try Hamachi.
