I have an existing NTL cable modem connected via USB to a desktop PC. The modem has the option of USB or ethernet connections on the back (but according to the manual supplied by NTL, it is not posssible to connect both at the same time - unless this just means not using both at the same time). Originally, when installing the modem, we needed a setup password - which I no longer have, and am therefore stuck in re-installing the modem via the ethernet option. I also have second desktop, a laptop, and a PS3. I wish to connect these 4 items to a network (wired or wireless) and be able to access the internet via each item. The laptop has wireless capability, as does the PS3, and all 4 have ethernet ports. If I connect the second desktop to the first by ethernet, will I be able to connect to the USB modem from the second PC? I also have a Belkin wireless G router. I am unsure as to whether or not this would be any use to me or do I need to buy something else? Many thanks for any help you can give Dale
I helped my mate set up his network not long ago. (took ages to figure out that it plugged into the modem, dippy moment ) If you plug the router into the modem and then you can connect all your things to the router they should all be able to connect to the internet. I think there is a way to make your first PC 'share' the internet connection but i don't know, maybe someone else will know. But as long as you have internet, a router and ethernet cables/wireless cards(or usb devices) it should all work no problem i think.
