hello I just installed an new Asus P5KPL motherboard. Intel core2 duo chip, 2 gig of ram. When I power up the system the motherboard splash screen shows with the press delete to enter setup message showing but it does not respond to the keyboard. Yesterday when I tried it the keyboard lights would flash, but today they don;t. I have disconnected everything but the ram and video card and checked and reseated the power connections. I have tried 2 different keyboards, a usb and ps2, also tried it without a keyboard and I don't get the usual no keyboard message. I am at my wits end on thisone, I have built a number of systems in the past so I am not a noobe. Any help would be vastly appreciated. Bob
I don't think the usb keyboard will work until you can turn it on in the bio's.. It should work with the PS2 though.. Yea ! this is a strange problem.. have you checked the hard drive ? check the cpu to make sure it is seated right.. try it with One ram, then with the other.. It sounds like you have some kind of a CLASH somewhere..
Hi Thanks for the quick reply. I don't have any drives hooked up. I only have one stick of ram and I have tried it in all the ram slots. In another post in this forum with similar problems they said to try clearing the bios ram. No joy on that either. The only things I have in the machine are the video card and ram and the ps2 keyboard. Going nuts on this one. Bob
Hi I am beginning to suspect the power supply. I had a similar problem a while back except I could go into the bios but the machine wouldn't boot. The bios had voltage readings in it and one was too low, replaced the power supply and it worked. I will try measuring voltages with my dvm later and see if any are off. Bob
Hi Tried a new power supply but no luck. I am wondering if the ram is bad but have no way to check it. Any ideas anyone? Bob
It just might be the motherboard is bad....It might of been dropped..hard to say! this will be a hard one to narrow down..It could be your ram,you just need one stick to test.
Hi Thanks for the reply. I only have one stick of ram, it is possible that it is bad. I have no way to test it as I can't get past the bios splash screen. I will see if I can pick up another stick of ram later and see if that works. If that fails then it looks like a bad mother board for sure as I have tried everything else. Bob
One last thing, Pull the battery out for 15 minutes to reset the bio's,then reinstall battery and give it a try.. Won't hurt..
I will give that a try, I did try resetting the bios with the jumpers but that was before I got the new power supply. Thanks bob
Hi Tried that but no joy. Guess I might try Asus's tech support line, can't find anything helpful on their web site. Thanks for all your help Ghostman we gave it a good try. Bob
