Hi all - looks as if I have come to the right place for advice on choosing my next machine! I know only the real basics of PC components and would welcome input of what I should look for when buying a new machine. At the moment I have a 5 year old Dell dimension 2400 which is seriously struggling with my video and photo editing programs. Below are my requirements and budget. Help appreciated from someone in the know!! Budget: Approx £500 - for Computer only. I have a good monitor etc. Usage: Video editing, photo editing (not gaming), several big programs open at once Programs: Sony Vegas, Photoshop etc Requirements: Big hard drive (internal or external), fast, able to deal with video and photos with ease, fast rendering of video. So what am I looking for in a machine? Would a prebuilt Dell be my best value for money? Will a tailor made machine have problems with component interactions? Can I use my old hard drive with programs on in my new machine as I don't have some of the original program disks? Many thanks for any advice Mark
a self built computer will likely be a better value for the money, and is easily upgraded in the future. as for the hard drive, you can use that one in conjunction with a bigger hard drive if you need more space for your editing.
Hi. I definitely agree with txwasthereason that a custom built will save you tons of money and let you get better performance. It's really easy now-a-days. As far as component interaction, there really aren't many problems if you know what to look for. If this is what you want let us know, and we can walk you through step by step. Good luck.
