I have an MSI KN8 Neo with the Nforce3 250 Gb Chipset. It didn't come with a game port, so I installed a Sounblaster PCI, and guess what? The darn thing isn't loading the Game Port! A few checks on the web seem to verify this. Does anybody know if the Nforce3 still doesn't support the game ports on sound cards like the Nforce2? I tried the latest Nforce drivers, but they don't work either. Nvidia doesn't say anything about it in their website. Any links or fixes wil be highly appreciated.
I've gone to their websites, and have downloaded an upgraded driver for the soundcard. I'll try it out tonight. What irks me is that Nvidia just let it slide, and they don't even mention it about the Nforce Chipset. As for MSI, they should have included a game port, because they knew of the Nforce's limitation in this regard.
Unlike the nForce 2, nVidia didn't put SoundStorm in 3 & 4. It wasn't getting the demand as hoped, so it was dropped. In general, I have seen many companies drop the gameport on all motherboard lines. With peripherials using USB for some time now, there's been no reason to keep it. It's no one's fault so much as that it's become a niche market. It is NOT a limitation of the nForce 3 chipset. What you could do is try the card in different PCI slots and see if things work out better there. Is it showing up in Device Manager or not?
I tried the new drivers. Nothing changed. Changed PCI slots, and still no go. It's in Device Manager alright (Code 12- not enough resources) -- And IT IS a limitation of the Nforce, as I read it from MSI. It doesn't allow for addresses below some figure - and the game port operates in that region. True, most peripherals are now USB, but why let go of a perfectly good Wingman Digital Extreme? And if I had bought a non-Nforce board, I could have still used the one in the soundcard. Oh well, guess I'll just have to buy a new one. Thanks guys.
