No hard drive recognised... F***

When I boot up my box a message comes up saying:

No Operating System

I went into the BIOS to see if the boot sequence was correct and found out that the BIOS didn't think I had a hard-drive. I checked the physica connections, nothing wrong. So then I tried reloading Windows XP from the install disc, thinking that it might be somehting wrong with the BIOS. I tried repairing it and reloading it but each time it said I had no hard-drive.

Help please... :(
 
make sure all the cables are connected but it sounds like the HD is gone as bios does not detect it.
