I have a friend's pc which has been causing some trouble lately, like freezing in WinXP and shutting down etc,, so I brought to my house to format it and freshly install XpPRo (which was installed in it less than a year ago) and this pc is hardly used! When I tried to switch it on this morning , after it has been about a month swithced off, nothing came on the display. The pc booted normally without any beeps but my TFT remained swithed off. First thing I tried was a new VGA card and hooked up another TFT. but it didnt help at all. The problem persisted! Im suspecting that there is some kind of fault in the motherboad which is a Gigabyte Socket A board and is less than a year old. Any suggestions ?
if u have a second gpu installed or onboard vga WITH your current GPU your pc may be booting using this second vga. if your cmos has been reset due by any cause theres a POSSIBILITY the bios will be using this second gpu installed
The motherboard specs can be found HERE I think it does not have an onboard VGA controller. And how can I access the BIOS if i just dont see anything on the screen?
Ok, take your new card out, sounds like you did not disable the intergrated gpu, thats if there is intergrated graphics. Sounds like maybe your new card could be faulty, check that the power cables are plugged into your new card if there is any, there might be a molex connector on it. Try resetting CMOS, look near the cmos battery, there might be 2 pins uncovered, if there uncovered, put a jumper on them, turn comp on and off then take the jumper off, if there not uncovered, take the jumper off, then turn comp on and off and put the jumper back on. If your monitor does not come back on, possibly the card is faulty as i said, power cable might not be plugged in, or card might not be properly inserted, i cant think of anything else.
