"Toby is the cutest little bunny on the planet. Unfortunately, he will DIE on June 30th, 2005 if you don’t help. I rescued him several months ago. I found him under my porch, soaking wet, injured from what appeared to be an attack from an alley cat. I took him in, thinking he had no chance to live from his injuries, but miraculously, he recovered. I have since spent several months nursing him to health. Toby is a fighter, that’s for sure. I think that's really funny. Good for that guy if he manages to make 50,000 dollars off of the idiots of the world! If people are dumb enough to donate, then he deserves it! The bunny, clearly isn't worth $50, let alone $50,000. This guy is either a liar, or a genius. And probably both. Using something as simple as a fluffy bunny as bait, he has supposedly lured thousands of people to donate to a moronic cause. How many animals die each day through cruelty, starvation, nature? I don't resent him so much as the morons who are actually donating funds to him. One would hope that even the most uptight, new-age, hippy, vegetarian/vegan, animal rights activist would realize that unless they are growing their own food and harvesting it themselves, thousands of animals are still killed every year on their behalf. This means lots of bunnies, and cute little field mice too (among other things) are killed in the harvesting process. And we're just talking about to get them a loaf of bread, carrots or some tofu cubes, let alone other non-food products. At least if you eat an animal you are killing it for a reason -- it isn't simply dying as a side-effect of some other process.
I love my cats, but I wouldn't spend that kind of money for them. That dude's a twisted genius. If someone threatened to do that to a human for money, I don't think you'd have half the uproar you would for a bunny rabbit. I'm sure PETA is going nuts over this...and that makes me happy.
