NVidia's released an updated version of their Linux/Unix drivers, namely 1.0-9746. I've tested this against the previous stable release, and in terms of pure 3D performance I've averaged about 1~FPS more while using the new version on most tests. While the performance increase is definately marginal, it's good to see NVidia adding features to their drivers and still squeezing more performance out of them. You can download it for yourself over at Nvidia.com: Unix Drivers Portal Page
Hi, Thanks for the heads-up. Does the kernel need to be changed to accomodate apgart (chipset name)? VIA in my case, but an AMD chipset is mentioned for agp. The graphics is set to nvidia. I ask because this is my first NV install after a few years with ati graphics therefore I'm not up to date with the different installer. Cheers.
AGPgart should already be included in your kernel, i'm not sure but if it isn't you may need to install a new one. Either through binary packages or build your own. You'll also need the kernel headers for the nvidia kernel module build process.
My Geforce FX5200 PCI should arrive tomorrow It may be pale in comparision to the latest nVidia and ATi chipsets but it's probably a damn site better then the Intel graphics I have at the moment! GlennsPref, you don't mention which distribution you are using. If, by chance it happens to be Ubuntu then you can use this repository for the latest drivers. The packages are unofficial but i've had no problems using the latest legacy driver for my Geforce2 Ultra
