This is my first post and I am in need of major help. I got on my computer opened up thunderbird (to check my email, I use it aswell as Firefox for the internet) and it opens up firefox and pops up a box like the ones when you download something and where the file name is it says thunderbird and it says save to. When I click cancel it goes to firefox but if i click ok it just adds another shortcut. Same thing happens in all my programs. HELP!!!!
Dear Mrstudly, It is not clear what exactly you mean by "Same thing happens in all my programs"? Do you mean that whenever you try to launch any program, new shortcuts are added to you desktop? In that case, I think you should use a good antivirus software to scan your system, since it may be a virus. Also, scan the system for spyware/adware also. Let me know the results. Bye. Chinmoy
Fairly odd. Especially as you are using the best browser and email client for Windows. Perhaps try reinstalling both the programs, and doing as Chinmoy suggested and scanning for malware. Try AVG for a great free scanner.
I tried ad-aware and an anti-virus but I can't open them under my account. But if I switch users to another account I can open anything aswell as ad-aware and a anti-virus so I ran both but nothing was found. I have a list of all running processes if that helps?
New shortcuts arnt exactly added. It pops up a little menu like what it pops up when I try to download something and if I click save it adds another desktop icon but if I click cancel it just opens firefox but with no webpage shown, and I can use that to get on the internet.
It seems as if you are being denied the rights to certain programs. Why don't you simply delete your user account and create a new user account, giving it Computer Administrator rights. You may have to create new shortcuts to certain apps but that is a minor thing. Best of luck. Chinmoy
