    Hi everyone,

I have an ASUS P4S8X-X motherboard (BIOS revision 1002) with Award Medallion BIOS 6.0 (P4 2.53GHz, 1.25Gb memory). I was adding a second hard drive to the system when the problems started.

First off, it didn't pass POST (long, continuous beeping) - the memory wasn't seated right. Reseated it, and now it passes that.

The trouble is, now it won't boot anything. I've tried the following:
    • Windows XP from the older hard drive
    • Windows XP install CD
    • Ultimate Boot CD
    • Knoppix
    • MemTest x86+ (CD)

Running XP from the hard drive, it gets to the point where it complains that Windows was not shut down properly and asks if you want to run from safe mode or normal mode. Either way, it stops as soon as you hit enter.

With any of the CDs, it just shows the error message
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

    I haven't tried booting from a floppy, I don't actually have a floppy disk about :O

Both the new and older hard drives, plus the CD drive show up properly in the BIOS.

Any ideas where the problem would be?

Managed to boot a CD by unplugging one of the CD drives (one that's not really used :p). Ran Memtest, one of my RAM sticks was failing, badly. Took that out, Windows booted fine.

That was a fun couple of days!
