I was given a laptop when a school closed down. They had been donated and when the new school opens they will have new equipment. It was a thank you for all my hard work (nice!) But and this is a big but... when I try to start it there is a password box like on my pc at home. I have tried a few options from the web but nothing seems to work. One of my friends said it might be on a Domain????? whatever that means. Does anyone know if there is a way round this??? It is a novatech model 255113 that runs XP service pack 2.

I have little knowledge of laptops, per say, but perhaps you could try removing the CMOS battery for 1 Minute to reset the BIOS then replace the battery. Make sure you remove the 'normal' rechargeable battery when you do this.

I hope others can offer more help.

Ya, it's better idea. Even it is a domain password, resetting the CMOS can remove it.
