I have a PC with a PATA master hard drive. I recently purchased a SATA hard drive (I'll admit, I didn't know there were 2 kinds). I bought an adapter, so I could plug in the new drive, but it will not format. When I go through "F1" set-up, the drive is recognized. When I go to disk management, it is there too. However, I go through all of the motions of formatting the drive (can take hours on a 750 GB drive), only to have it fail the formatting process at the end. What can I do to fix this?
if you're using the standart windows management console for disk management, then don't and go try something else, maybe? +, what do you mean by "adapter" SATA>>PATA or what?
The "adapter" is a small circuit board that plugs into the SATA2 conncections on the back of the har drive. The board then has the PATA connections on it (4 pin power, and the multi-pin connector for the ribbon cable). Regardless, the PC "sees" the new drive, it just won't format it.
