I bought a maxtor diamondplus 9 sata drive 120gb in size, oem. I have also purchased a nice new asus k8v mb, along with the little red cables for sata drive. However I cannot get windows xp home (genuine copy with sp1a) to see my sata drive, but my mb picks it up???? Windows is therefore unable to install o/s. I have connected my sata drive to sata 1 adapter on mb, just puzzling the hell outa me.

When setup starts, it asks you to press F6 if you have sata drivers to install. Press it, and everything should be fine.

That should fix it, or if it still isn't being picked up you could try formatting as that will fix a different problem 8/10.

Basically, like they all said. XP does not have native SATA support in it, and therefore must have a driver provided for the SATA controller.
