I have a Asus dvd burner model 1608p. I tried burning a 70min music cd with nero and Magix. When it is finish burning it gives me a message "could not perform end of disc-at-once. I have downloaded the firmware from Asus web site. When I try to install the frimware it gives me a message "available target is not found". The burner will burn dvds fine. Windows regonizes the burner as "DRW-1608p." I am running winxp-sp2. I Could somebody please help me with this problem. Thank You

    P.S-the firmware i downloaded is ver. 1.57

There are one or two things you can try.

To start off, although I do not know your set-up, the drive to have its firmaware upgraded, should be master on the end of the IDE ribbon and on its own. This should make sure that the flash utility can recognise it.
One more thing to make sure is that if your dvd-rw came already with the computer (built-in) you should use firmware provided by the manufacturer of the PC. This is just to ensure compatability.

As for burning, try and run ForceASPI to see if you can correct the the burning issues.

Post back with results or if this is not helpful.

I have a Memorex cd burner plugged into the primary ide and the Asus dvd burner plugged into the secondary ide. Both burners are plugged in by themselves nothing else attached to them. Could this be the reason why I am have problems updating the firmware on my dvd burner? Please reply if you can. Thank You

I could not say if this is the reason but personaly, I would disconnect the CD-ROM while trying to update the firmware. See if that helps....

To upgrade the firmware, you need to make sure the ASUS burner is on the Master end of the Secondary IDE channel and the drive set to Master via the jumpers on the drive itself. And leave the memorex unplugged while you perform the upgrade.
