well, the other night I was cleaning out my computer when I got around to the cpu fan and heatsink. I took the fan off and cleaned the dust off the heatsink when I decided to umclamp the heatsink. The reason? I don't know. Well stupidly I didn't clamp if back on right and later on that night I heard a pop noise and my computer shut off. Well this time I believe I got it back on right nice and good but the problem is everytime I play a game, a decent amount of time into it, say an hour or so, no matter what game, it freezes. Right on spot, freezes and I can't do any command. I believe it either to be the processor thats bugging out, which I dont know, or its not getting cool enough. All the fans work right and I think processor damage wouldn't allow the computer to run at all. It works fine otherwise but games make it freeze. I was wondering if anyone with the same experiance can offer any advice. Thanks. Processor- AMD 64 3400+ hah:
no need to panic yet, check the CPU H/S + FAN are fitted 100% corectly, the pop you hear could be the heat sink clip poping off then allowing your CPU to overheat which probably cause a game to freeze, you may want to add some thermal paste between the CPU & H/S (paper thin layer)
thanks, I attached it again and I aligned it straight because it appeared crooked and I gave it a whirl and when I played a game for abour 4 hours (no life) no problems.. Thanks
