Problem with homebuild PC

Hey guys, i ran into a problem with my homemade PC and i don't know exactly what is wrong with it.

The problem is the following:

Whenever i play these hot games with killer graphics (F.E.A.R. and Oblivion) with maxed out graphical settings and i quit the game i have to reboot the system. I tried using the benchmark from futuremark (3dmark 06) and when i came to the Pixel Shader 3.0 tests i was able to see the same problems happening again.

So what happens. When i quit FEAR/Oblivion or the PS 3.0 test is done and i return to windows the screen refreshes VERY SLOWLY. It's hard for me to explain what happens. For example i press the START button:

1. i press START button
2. screen turns black
3. START menu appears
4. i select programs (or any other thingie from the menu)
5. screen turns black
6. the selected thingie appears

and so on. Also this happens at a very low speed so it takes a while for me to open something i want.

After a reboot everything is fine. I also experienced random blue screens of death while playing Fear and Oblivion, i do not know if the problems are related.

The system is brand new and FEAR and Oblivion are the first games i played on my system.

AMD Athlon FX 57
DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert
Creative X-FI Fatal1ty
Asus 7900 GTX
2x 1GB of Kingston memory (khx3200a)
PSU Antec TruePower 550W

So... in my oppinion it's something either wrong with my graphics card or the PSU cannot handle it because this happens ONLY when playing the most challenging games graphics wise (and with max settings).

I tried playing Call of Duty 2 with max settings and nothing happened so far.

I would look at turning down the graphics settings a little. I've found that if you turn your graphics settings up to the max the system can handle, it will hog the RAM. FEAR and Oblivion are the two games out right now that have the ability to make SLI and Crossfire systems cry.

Lord: It doesn't go over 52 Celsius.

Big B: I toyed around with the "Deep Freeze" test from 3dMark 06 and true that if u select 800x600 and bilinear texture filtering i avoid the black screen problem. HOWEVER, right at the start of the test there is still a graphical artifact that after it appears it reduces the fps 50% for the whole test and in the forelast scene (where i have the problem with artifacts and after which the black screen problem appears) the artifacts are still there but this time they do not force the black screen problem to appear in windows.

So something is still wrong because i get the artifacts in the first place and they hit the card performance very very badly.

I bring news on the video card front.

Sadly it seems to be a general problem with at least the Asus 7900 series (including GT and GTX). It is not known if it is an hardware problem or software problem.

Some users say that their card work with the forceware 84.21 (or something like that) but only if they do a fresh install. If they install any other drivers it won't work. Also some said that they did that and their card worked for a few days and then it did the same problems i have.

They did a fresh install of the same drivers and it worked again. So atm nobody knows exactly what is wrong and Asus (since i have the card from them) are keeping very quiet on the matter. I also read some people RMA'd their cards twice and still didn't worked.

Some people have some random fixes, like underclocking their cards, or ticking off a render option from the card but these solutions do not work for everybody, they work randomly.

So my video problem is "solved" but i still have the electricity problem now :(
