Problems setting up new rig.

First the system specs:
Q6600 2.4 quad
DP35DPM intel atx mobo
BFG nvidia 8800
70gb 10k rpm raptor drives x2 (hard to set up raid w/o floppy though so gay)
some dvd burner
2 gigs 800 Mhz ram in dual channel.
cisco aironet pci a/b/g

My problem:
Whether I try to install windows xp or live boot to linux, the system always freezes at some point. Sometimes it will say a file on the CD is corrupted, sometimes it won't even boot... sometimes still it will just freeze during the installation process.
It seems that i can progress more after leaving the system off for a few hours (it still won't finish installing windows) which leads me to believe it might be a heating problem.

Plz help me out, I spent a good deal of money to build this rig and absolutely hate pointless spending =/

First of all, did you install the motherboards setup disk first ? to install all the drivers for that motherboard.. Next how many fans do you have in that case ?

The install error may point towards faulty ram stick / voltage setting.

First thing to try would be to install with just one stick of ram, still fails then try the other. Let us know if this changes the situation.

THANK YOU FERGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! after removing one of the ram chips the system works perfectly... But 1gb of ram is so little =(

Glad you have gotten it up and running, although don't be counting your eggs right now:

1st, if the system is new then it simply means you need to RMA the other stick of ram to wherever you bought it from, they'll probably ask that you run memtest 86 on it to confirm the error : Memtest86.com - Memory Diagnostic

2nd, there may still be an outside chance that this is a voltage problem - what make/model of ram do you have exactly? Does it say anything about voltage on the box/spec sheet? (Mine needs a good healthy 2.2v instead of the pewny 1.9 that comes as standard from most bios settings, you should also be able to change this from the bios)
