Newbie here, having a small problem with startup and can't find any info on how to correct it. I have, I believe, too many programs starting and running at startup. There is a list of these programs like on msconfig etc. I would like to stop some of these programs from starting up but don't want to destroy my computer either. I know how to stop them, but don't know how critical they are. Can someone help me out, if I have to send them a list of these programs, I will. Thank you all in advance, Take Care, Ken
I will do that, will get the list together and send it to ya as soon as I can, thank you for the help
These are the ones I don't know what they are, Hoping you do! HPDJ taskbar utility nvcpldaemon nvcpl ohitp gcasserv ctsysvol mcvsshld mscifapp mpftray mcagent mcupdate oasclnt mcmnhdlr hpztsb11 all but the first one are from the msconfig startup screen. If you need anymore info, please let me know, Thanks again, Ken
Thats not really a bad startup list, a lot of them are antivirus services, ms antispyware or driver software. What is your problem? Maybe its something unrelated to startup programs.
If you go to Start>>Run>> and type in "msconfig" (no quotations), you will be able to choose specifically what is loaded when the computer boots...hit the startup tab, and you can safely disable anything in that list..obviously stuff like antivirus, wireless connection utilities etc etc will be necessary, but you can disable most of them. I myself have only 2 programs that load up with windows ~ AVG and Steam.
Thats what I'm after, programs that don't really need to be on that list. You say you only have 2 running, can you go through my list and tell me which one's I don't need at startup, Looking to make the procedure of me turning on the computer and be able to get going without waiting too awful long. Thats why I'm here on this forum to be able to get help from the one's who know what they are talking about. Any help from anybody would be greatly appreciated. I understand, that when you take these programs out of the startup, all you have to do is click on the icons to get them started again if you need them, correct? Thanks again and have a great day!
Not really a problem, just trying to get the system going quicker with maybe cleaning up the startup. I think it's taking a lot of time from the time I turn it on til the time I can do what I have to do. I just sent a thread to waffle, if I can get some help getting some of that list off the startup, it might help to optimize the time. As long as I don't mess myself up with stopping needed programs at startup, I be okay. Thanks for any help! There is also a part of the ms antispy beta that has a "startup optimize" that also has a list. I'm going to wait on that one until I get the main startup taken care of.:O
There are other ways to increase your system performance & startup times. You should defragment your hard disk for example. Download and install this program: www.ccleaner.com. It's a registry cleaner & optimiser.
Thanks, will try that, but still want to get these startup programs to a minimum, but really don't know what will happen when I do. Not familiar with the terms they use on these lists. Thank you for your help, take care, Ken
Strange enough it only shows one, for my 3 in 1 printer. However, when I run my PC Doc Pro, in the startup optimizer, it has a bunch of them. Really don't know what to do here. Just ran a new program, CCleaner, hoping that will help speed things up. I did send a thread a bit ago with some of the startups that show in msconfig. Check the previous thread, and thank you for trying to help, very much appreciated, Ken
Did the CCleaner thing and it showed quite a bit of junk files and junk. Hope that will help, Thanks again!:good:
A great program for getting rid of start-up programs, cleaning up the registry, and a bunch of other useful tools is TuneUp Utilities 2006. It's only a 30 day trial, but within 30 minutes of using it, you can speed up your computer so much. Search it on Google and see what you come up with. It's such an awesome program. Cheers.
I loved TuneUp Utilities 2006 so much, I went out and bought it It has the best registry cleaner I have ever seen!
Did the same thing, bought that tuneup utilities 2006, what a great software. However, I won't have to worry bout my start up menu anymore, just blew the computer. turned it on and instant smoke. gonna get a new one. At least my C drive is okay and still has my stuff on it. Thanks to all who tried to help with my problem. Lookin at a dell, What ya think ?
WOW, that's very unlucky! Sounds like you may have had a faulty PSU! I'm glad you bought Tune-Up 2006 - did you check out the start-up manager? Dell make some great PCs for the price, you can't really go wrong.
Yeah it's great (cheers for recommending it to back in the day UnSeEn). Though for some reason it's incapable of ridding my bar of MS Messenger, nothing is, damn thing's perminately imbedded...
