PSU connector?

I'm eyeing a 500GB SATA Seagate on eBay, but it dawned on me my PSU didn't have the appropriate plugs for a SATA unit. I did another quick search and came up with this, but because it keeps saying SATA2 all over the page, I'm kindof confused if my new SATA drive is going to work with it. Please advise. (Also, what is the difference between SATA and SATA2?)

Frankly, I don't even completely understand what that thing does, and the pictures don't help much. Out of curiosity, is there anything out there which you can just connect to a regular IDE power cable and connect to a SATA unit? Something like an IDE>SATA power converter or something.

If all fails I'll just have to get another power supply or forget the hard drive.

Found this webpage and it confuses me even more. I was thinking it was a small gadget which sits on top of the standard 4-pin power connector, but now there's this UV cable behind it which supposedly leads to I-don't-know-where. Somebody enlighten me please. :eek:
 
The connector you linked to seems to be what you need, but it really is a shame they don't show a single full picture of it. Here is a full picture of what you're looking for.

And on the other hand, you can always go buy a new decent psu, but I'm not sure if you want to be spending that much extra money.
 
SATA2 is backward compatible with SATA, so, it will work & for a new PSU to include SATA power connectors you'll need buy a decent ATX version 2.2 PSU
 
I'm not about to get a new psu anytime soon, as I think my current ATX can still handle all the hardware in this machine. However, it would be good if somebody elaborated more on the difference between the different types of power supplies available and their pros and cons. This could help when I build my next pc. :)

well, basically, the latest version of ATX is / was 2.2 (released in 2004) which includes everything you may want / need

e.g. SATA HDD power connectors, PCIe connectors & stuff like that

years ago PSUs were AT, & AT was replaced by ATX, the main difference between AT & ATX is

a) the motherboard connector is very different & old AT style PC cases had a power switch that switched 220V (or 110V depending where you live)
