Hi I was wanting to know if it is possibel for me to make a copy of my dvd onto my hardrive. The reason for this is so I then can watch it on my laptop when ever i want. I have managed to do this but all ?I have done is gone to "my computer" then on the dvd section copied and pasted it on a folder. This process takes about 5 min , but when I veiw it its all it chapters and 2 folders "video ts" and "audio ts". I have been told there is another way of doing it but don't know how thanks tony
Try ripping it with HandBrake. It will transcode the video from an MPEG2 DVD into a compressed version of a more modern codec. That means if you encode it with relatively high-quality settings, it should look as good as the DVD, but be around 5x smaller in size on your hard drive. If you need a video player to play the resulting file, look into VLC.
As an alternative, you could also do this: You need these programs: - DVD Decrypter - D-Tools Steps: 1. Use DVD Decrypter to create an ISO file of the DVD 2. Use D-Tools to mount the ISO file to a 'virtual' DVD drive 3. Now just point your DVD player software to that drive If you do it this way you don't lose any quality, but each ripped DVD is approximately 5 GB in size. If that is too large for you, then it's better to use the method that Anti-Trend suggests.
Hey Chris...Hand Brake is not a ripper. It converts video. Is this an over site? Perhaps the program's...name...is something else?
It can rip and/or transcode. But like I said, it makes more sense to transcode movies, since we have a lot more CPU power these days than storage capacity. You can fit 5 compressed movies in the same amount of space as 1 that's simply dumped to the HDD, and at the same quality.
Oh well...Kind of confusing...I down loaded the program, and the above is a quote from the help section of the program.
