Ok just a couple of questions, not major but...the dude that set up my PC, I found out is a complete dumba@$$. He ripped my friend off big time, dodgy processor, RAM not the spec he wanted but same price, etc etc. He also didn't set it up right, so I'd like to check if everythings A-OK with my PC. How do I check that my GFX Card is set at 8X AGP, and not 4x? My memory is DIMM. Is this the most modern format? Also, as I was used to dealing with a P3 800mhz, I'm not sure on what my PC is capable of. Saving Tracks to iTunes on my old PC was 2x speed. Now it is around 15x speed. Is that the level of performance I should be looking for? Are there any specific benchmark programs that will give me a number or something that I can then compare to other similar spec. systems? And finally, are there any programs within Windows that will display all the information that tells me exactly whats in the PC, and what setting its at, aside from DXDIAG? Greatly appreciated.
There's some software from SiSoft that's pretty thorough about specs and performance, and also some open-source equivilents that do the same thing. Sorry, don't have time ATM to track down links for you, but maybe try SourceForge.net. When it comes down to your components, the best way is to just crack open your chassis and check out your hardware. Even if the parts are not clearly labeled (i.e. super-generic cheap-o motherboard), you can get the FCC ID# and look up the make and model # using the FCC search engine.
you can use http://www.mvpcinfo.com/PCinfo/intro.htm to find out loads of info about your pc I hope this helps, its only a 30day trial though!
OK, here's the open-source one, which is just getting off the ground. And the other one I was thinking of is called Fresh Diagnose. It's similar to SiSoft Sandra, but it's free. At least, sort of free. If I remember correctly, and I may be mistaken, but I think that software came with some minor spyware. Also, Fresh Devices added me to a rather annoying mailing list, which I had to block, so be forewarned.
