    Hi all,
I'm new to the forum but not new to computers. Recently I bought some ram to improve an old computer (Legend 4001:specs) It comes with 512mb of ram, here are the specs for that ram stick (512mb sick) It's DDR PC2700 333 MT/s.
And the new ram i bought is the same specs, ddr pc2700 333 MT/s, both are CL2.5 (1gb stick)

But for some reason my computer doesn't recognize the new ram, it beeps when i turn it on, which is what is does if i turn the computer on with no ram in anyway.
Does anyone know why it doesn't recognize it or what I can do. I have run the Microsoft memory diagnostics but no errors were found so I'm guessing the ram wasn't even found, it's not like there's an error with it.
    Thanks for any help,
    Sephers

I could be numerous things such as: The ram you have in your machine is ecc-buffered, and the ram you bought is non ecc- unbuffered. you can tell that is buffered ram by counting 9 ram chips. non ecc-unbuffred ram has 8 ram chips.

But from the looks of it your problem must be that the 1gb ram module you bought is Registered ECC ram in other words it's ECC Buffered ram. The memory controller doesn't support Buffered ram.

you will have to send it back dude and buy Non -Ecc Unbuffered ram.

I found out the problem, turns out my m/b is so old it only supports upto 1GB of RAM with 2x512mb chips...gutted. Shud have looked more carefully at the manual before buying.
