RAM slots 2 and 3 not working?

Ok, so i've got 3 sticks of 512mb, i've put all 3 in RAM slot 1 individually, and booted windows, and windows recognises them and runs ok, so i can't imagine that it's an actual problem with the RAM

But, when i put them all in at the same time in slot 1, 2 and 3 windows only recognises 512mb, i'm fairly sure its only using the RAM from slot 1, and not 2 and 3. Is there some kind of bios setting that selects which RAM slots windows will use? Previously, i have had two sticks of 512mb working in slots 1 and 2, and i've only had this problem since trying to put a stick in slot 3 (it didn't work initially, but i played around and have since got windows working, but as described with the problems above)

Can you break the actual RAM slots like that? It doesn't seem all that likely that both slots broke, and all the RAM survived, or is there some kind of settings i'm missing?

It's an Abit KD7A, think it can handle 3 gigs. The problem is, i can't even get it to recognise the old setup of two sticks of 512mb, i put them in, but windows and the bios sees only one 512mb. Originally before i tried putting in a third stick, i already had two working 512 sticks working, which doesn't happen now.

BUT, and it's a big but, i do have reason to think that the slots aren't broken.. because i run a program called cpu-z, which -does- recognise each stick of RAM in each individual slot.. its just the bios and windows which doesn't : /

Thanks

Have you tried mixing them around?
Are they all the same speed?
Do they have different timings?

They're all 512mb, two are pc3200 and one is pc2700, for ages now i've been running universally at 133FSB. In the first place, i had a 3200 and 2700 running and working in the first two slots, and since trying to add a new pc3200 had the above problem. Now trying to run the original setup of pc3200 and pc2700 again windows and the bios aren't recognising more than 512mb (but like i said, cpu-z still detects the sticks in their slots)

I've mixed them around a bit, which hasn't made any difference thus far.

Your manual may show what memory configurations are valid, but I would think that 3 512MB DIMMs would work just fine.

Now, I am correct in assuming you've tried the memory one at a time in DIMM 1?

Yeh, i was worried for a moment there when a stick didn't work on its own, but anyways i just tested all 3 in slot 1 and windows started with all of them.
