I have here a Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA2 7200prm 64MB 3.5" hard drive. And I suspect it has some issues as quite a few CRC errors have appeared of late (a fatal sign in all my previous experiences), complete and sudden disappearance from OS although there is a lack of clicking sound.
Whatever the issue is, I'm not risking my data. Have bought a new identical drive and bring me to the question; how do I rapidly copy files off the possibly-damaged hard drive? Windows (7) file copy is definitely too slow, too unreliable and in the event of interruption, complete disorder as to which files have or have not been copied.
I need a way to copy/move/image/ghost whatever; just get all my stuff off the old WD as quick as possible. About 950GB has been used, so I'll be moving 950GB of stuff. There's enough processing power and grunt (Phenom2 X3, 4GB DDR2-800) to get things going.
Any ideas? The stuff is very important so I don't mind paying a little for software.
Cheerio,
Nicholas.
