Hi, I've just bought a new Machine (AM2 Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+, Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4, 1 x DDR2 2GB Kingston 667MHz, 320GB Seagate 7200rpm 16M SATA). I installed Windows XP Pro SP2 on it, and it all works fine ... EXCEPT ... whenever software requires a reboot or I select restart, it shuts down fine, but then doesn't restart ... however the power still stays on - i.e. fans still running, power led still on, nothing on the screen!! ...this also happens if I go into the BIOS - when I exit the BIOS - the machine fails to startup ... and like above the power is still going etc ... Any Idea's would be most greatful...and I can't pull any more hair out Cheers DiTcH
From this we can tell it's not an issue with your Windows installation since it happens in the BIOS... I'd usually say we're looking at a power issue, but if that were the case, why would it power up at all in the first place... Therefore this is very likely to be a motherboard issue... Check for known issues on the manufacturers website and see if there's a BIOS update that might solve this problem. Also, check if the HDD activity light is flashing away or not - if it flashes for a while then slows down to an occasional flash, you'll know Windows has been loading up and the problem might be with the GPU (hence no display). This could also be an issue with mobo compatibility and a BIOS update might be there to solve it. There's some bright minds on these forums so someone else might suggest some more ideas... Regards, Mike
