Router Config

Just got my router and halfway through setting it up. It says i have to go to http://192.168.1.1 to configure it but just times out when i try to go to it. any suggestions? Maybe it'll start working later or something
 
No experience with routers but is there a specified port you need to go through to configure it? Like [ipad]:[port]?
 
are you sure all the wires are connected correctly? and that the router is connected to the computer?
 
Are you connected to the router via wireless, or patch cable? If it's the latter, be sure you're not plugged into the "WAN" port by mistake. :P
 
The router's green internet lcd has lit up so i assume i've plugged it in right. The symbol next to the plug i put the cable into on the back of my pc was three computer screens linked up by lines. (you no wat i mean :) )

OK, what is your PC's IP address? Chances are, you're not in the same subnet as the router! Set your IP temporarily to a static 192.168.1.250, and try again!
 
some router accepts Static IP (ie. netgear, USR, 3com) address as what AT said, but sometimes they need the TCPIP setting to be automatically assigned (ie. D-Link) so i suggest that you try both..... i havent tried Lynksis yet though..
 
Right I've been looking at things. It says to connect the phoneline to my modem, the modem to router and router to computer. If I connect the modem to the phone line the other cable left is USB so I can only plug it into computer leaving out the router. So I plug an etheral cable into the "internet" port on the router and into the computer. The internet LCD lights up but I don't know it is going to work or not. How am I supposed to connect the modem to the router and phonline?? Do I need a usb/etheral cable or something (if they even exist) ??
 
I've done some googling and looks like i need either a different modem or a different router.... bollocks....
 
how are you connecting the computer to the router? I would assume you are using a cat5 cable to connect to the NIC port on the PC?
