Hi, my main HD is a ata 36.7GB WD on SATA (OS XP PRO)but i lost some files (long story ) and i need to recover them.i then decided to boot my 250GB running on IDE HDO .problem is when i boot the 250GB i cant XP doesnt see or recognise the 36.7GB on SATA but wehen i boot the 36.7GB it see's the 250GB IDE hard drive. i tried to re-scan in disk manager when booting the 250GB and also changed the SATA socket over on the mobo but no joy.if i cant get the 250GB to see the 36.7GB SATA drive then the recovery progams dont see the 36.7GB ata drive so meaning i cant recover the lost/formatted files.i did have a jumper on the 36.7GB drive so i took it off but still the same. so question is how do i get the 250GB IDE HD to see the 36.7GB ata drive runnig on SATA in my computer ? is there something in the bios i shouls be ticking.? im also pretty sure in the bios and i chack it doesnt show the 36.7GB hd at all. i run a abit NF7-S mobo .the files are really important ones and were lost when i had to use a ghost image i made with norton but the files werent on the disk. Is the 36GB showing up in Disk Management or not? If it is, assign it a drive letter. You should have the option if you right-click on the drive itself.
no the 36.7gb ata drive on SATA doesnt show in disk management at all when i boot up using the 250GB as the main os.thats the problem , i cant see it so if i cant see it i cant do anything with it like scan for formatted files as the programs installed on the 250gb dont see the 36.7gb when i ask them to scan for hard drives.. i've tried refreshing and rescanning in disk management but no joy.but if i boot up using the 36.7gb drive as the main OS then it shows in the disk amangement and the 250gb as well.
when i boot from the 250gb IDE hard drive as the main OS , no i cant see it. its like its the 36.7GB SATA drive is not connected , nowere to be seen anywere.its ok when i boot the 36.GB SATA as the main OS i can see both drives in disk managemet and device manager and my comp the only other thing i can think of is the 250gb hd, even though it is named letter "Z" (i renamed it) it shows up as "C" when i boot it as the main OS. if i boot the 36.7gb on SATA the 250gb IDE drive reverts to and shows up as "Z".
wat's your mobo? coz with mine, a gigabyte k8n ultra sli, you have to install the chipset driver and the silicon raid utility. so if you can give me the model of your mobo, i might be able to help you.
its a gigabyte NF7-S when i install XP i do hit "F6" and install drivers and all's well , but its when i boot the 250GB HD on IDE thats the problem.it doesnt see the 36.7GB WD raptor HD. thanks,.
was that the full name? most likely it's a silicon controller, so download this. first, install the latest chipset driver for your mobo, (on your IDE hard drive) then, run this, it should recognize the controller then the drive should appear on My Computer. (don't install this if your sata controller isn't Silicon Image)
thanks for all the help much appreciated ,,,my fault should have said the mobo is a ;- ABIT NF7-S not a GIGABYTE so is that the correct silicon driver ?. sorry bout that
these are the right ones, if your mobo is this, these are the chipset drivers and this is the silicon driver remember, chipset driver first, then the silicon driver and check if the first link is your mobo i hope this helps....
big thanks to all who helped, problem sorted and im starting to recover the lost files.it was the chipset and silicon drivers ...once i installed them the 36.7GB HD appeared by magic ta,.
