sd card reader failure

My compaq presario with windows XP stopped reading my SD cards. I checked the system and the reader comes up as functioning normally. Still can't get SD cards from my camera read. The card is new.
 
Try the sd card on another Pc to find if the problem is not in the card .if you are using the card too often it may take worn out.I had a similar problem and my pc showd that there is a card inserted but couldn't open it . The same was by my notebook too.
