I just got this new drive. Seagate 7200.9 SATA 250G HDD.
When I first hooked up the drive, the BIOS didnt recognize it. So I read that you have to put on a jumper so it changes the data transfer rate from 3GB/s to 1.5GB/s. So after I did that, the BIOS recognized the drive.
I then proceeded to format it to FAT32 and put 2 files on it. One file was a music file and the other was a video file. When I play either of these files, I get this wierd popping noise. Also, when I try to transfer data to and from the drive it seems like it's having a hard time (it stalls for a few seconds at times, quite frequenty). I'm beginning to think its the PSU, because I only have two SATA power connectors and they're both on the same wire. Maybe its unable to provide enough power to both drives at once.
Here is what I have in my box:
Asus A8VE-Deluxe MoBo
Enlight 450W PSU
AMD 3200+
Sony DVD+/-RW
Nvidia 6800GT video
Soundblaster audigy sound
1 Seagate 7200.8 SATA 250G HDD
1 Seagate 7200.9 SATA 250G HDD
Any help is appreciated.
***SOLVED***
Ok I figured it out. The popping noise is noise. I was using onboard sound, but once I installed the audigy card, the noise went away.
