Hey all, I'm in need for some advice on what to do. I am currently running a simple web server on a Windows XP Pro, hosting websites, radios shows, forums, you get the jist of it? XP Pro just doesn't cut it. Now the actual tower unit itsself is a Server, with XP on it, however I want to upgrade but I'm not entirerlly sure what to go for. I have a pretty low budget but I am willing to wait! Any advice on what to go for? I know about Windows Server 2003 and 2003 R2 but I'm not sure if that will do the job for me... What you think? Paul~
Just to clarify: you want to change the OS or the OS and hardware? Would you be comfortable with a non-Windows OS?
What features are you looking for or what are your expectations? To be perfectly blunt about it, XP is pretty much Win2k with a prettier GUI, and that applies to the server versions. If anything, if it turns out that an OS upgrade is what you need, you might want to consider Win2k Server. It's older, but it's more mature in terms of security.
I'm looking for somthing that can host websites and other features easily. Does the Microsoft Action pack look like a good a 'cheaper' solution in your opinion?
